HealthSouth Tallahassee Hosts Stroke Survivor Reunion Event

5/07/2015

May is National Stroke Awareness Month and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Tallahassee will be hosting a Stroke Survivor Reunion on Thursday, May 14, from 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m.  The Reunion will connect former stroke patients and their caregivers, offer helpful stroke rehabilitation information and kickoff HealthSouth Tallahassee’s monthly Stroke Survivor Support Group that will begin in June. This year, HealthSouth’s national stroke awareness campaign theme is “Take Action for Stroke” which should encourage everyone to take action on educating themselves and others on stroke prevention and the role of rehabilitation in a patient’s recovery

Attendees will listen to HealthSouth Tallahassee CEO Dale Neely speak about the symptoms of stroke and the importance an individualized rehabilitation plan plays in stroke recovery.

“It’s important for everyone to learn the facts about stroke and stroke prevention as it can happen to anyone at anytime,” says Dale Neely, CEO of HealthSouth Tallahassee. “Being that our hospital is a leader in stroke rehabilitation care, we feel strongly about stroke survivors starting a rehabilitation program quickly after a stroke and are excited to have some of those survivors back with us to share their progress.”

According to the American Stroke Association, stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of disability. Approximately 795,000 Americans suffer from a new or recurring stroke, so you never know when you or someone you love will be faced with stroke either as a patient or caregiver. In either role, HealthSouth Tallahassee is here to help every step of the way.
